Hi. We are fiddle enthusiasts and we love all things to do with them. We both make and play fiddles.
Recently we have been making a hardanger fiddle!
A lot of research has gone into this to pull together the information on them – which is difficult to find outside of Norway.
Hardangers have a lot of differences from a regular violin. Different dimensions, different F holes, different gradients, bridges, strings, tensions. OK …..we are getting too technical.
Now those of you that have tried your hands at instrument making will know that it takes a lot of skill and time to make a violin. It takes even more to make a hardanger. You would not believe the craftsmanship involved in a traditional instrument which are impossibly decorative! They are therefore VERY expensive and quite rare.
We have been devloping our ideas to be able to make this at an affordable cost while making a really high quality instrument. Through the process of making our own we have found out what is important and refined and simplified the very decorative finish concentrating on the authenticity of the shape and sound.
We work with fantastic craftsman who build the fiddles to our design. They are high quality handmade instruments and are unbelievable value for money.
We hope that this will be interesting to everyone who loves playing traditional and particularly scandanavian music.
